Philippine Rugby to debut in the UAE
I was pinged this by an old mate out of the blue, Trevor Scott-Briggs … AKA TSB. I’d ask you to have a quick read about this guy here – click here – and as an update on this, he tells me he’s written a book about the whole shebang and it’s here in the UK awaiting publication … so I’ll keep you posted. Meanwhile … the Volcanoes.
PHILIPPINE RUGBY TO DEBUT IN THE UAE – Meet and Greet the Players at Little Manila Filipino Restaurant, Dubai, 2:00pm – 4:00pm, Thursday, 25 February 2016
Manila, Philippines – The mens national rugby team of the Philippines, more commonly known as the Philippine Volcanoes will compete in round 2 of the Division 2 Asian Seven’s Series title in Al Ain on February 26 and 27.
The Volcanoes will make their first appearance in the Gulf with the aim of requalification into Asia’s top 8 nations of rugby 7’s. The Volcanoes have had a string of success in the past, finishing as high as second in Asia however recent form has found them out of the top 8 and now looking to restablish themselves once again as a rugby powerhouse in Asia.
The Volcanoes will first however have to perform well in round 1 of the Asian 7’s Series which will be held in Chennai, India on February 20 and 21. The first round will act as seeding for round 2 and will determine the final draw for the Al Ain Asian Seven’s
“Its going to be a tough series, however with this strong team I believe the Philippines can out play and out skill the other Asian nations purely based on the overseas experience of our players and the depth in our squad” Matt Cullen, Director of Rugby Philippines.
ASPIRE Group who specialize in events, along with Little Manila Filipino Restaurant, Dubai will host a meet and greet for the Volcanoes on February 25 from 2.00pm – 4:00pm. All the local Filipino public are invited to enjoy an afternoon with their national team by getting to know the players through interviews and having a photo opportunity available for all supporters of the Philippine Volcanoes.
